DIVERSITY
Colombia is extremely abundant in musical and cultural traditions and Sonidoselva aims to increase awareness of Colombian Folkloric music's many vivid and diverse artistic expressions as we promote both the old and new generations of these rich traditions to new audiences.
RECORDING
Sonidoselva began as a recording studio and providing Folkloric musicians the means of recording their music in an extremely high quality way is central to what we do. We strive to create recordings of these groups that really truly transmit the powerful living energy present in the music of Colombia.
PROCESS
The recording process really follows the instinct of the artist, we do not insist that the facilities we provide be used in any particular way musically and artists are completely at liberty to utilize the full array of capabilities both traditional and modern present in our very well outfitted studios.
CONCERTS
After the recordings recording during the week we open our doors on Saturday and invite the whole community to experience the music live and in concert in the evening as well as a variety of musical and cultural activities throughout the day preceding the concert related to the cultural traditions of the musical groups.
WHERE IS SONIDOSELVA LOCATED?
MINCA
Minca is a town in the foot hills of La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Known for its incredible natural biodiversity, it is one of the premiere birdwatching locations on the planet hosting more than 360 species with many endemic to here. The community in Minca is quite unique with a variety of hotels and hostels as well Minca has several different Yoga, meditation and wellness classes are available in this very spiritually connected community. To get to Minca is quite easy. Santa Marta is the nearest airport and taxis are available that go up to Minca from the terminal. For groups or musicians with instruments or equipment transportation can be easily arranged.
THE FUTURE OF SONIDOSELVA
EXPANSION
Sonidoselva is evolving and expanding rapidly and it is our intention to do some major upgrades to our facility this year in order to support a much broader program in our community here in Minca. These include the installation of a high resolution outdoor immersive audio surround sound system, construction of a clay oven and outdoor kitchen for events and cooking workshops, expanding the capacity of the main indoor kitchen to accommodate classes, a large live recording room for the studio, a pool and sauna, a meditation deck space overlooking the river as well as a stone terrace outdoor gallery space with more projects to be announced soon.
WHY IS SONIDOSELVA IMPORTANT?
Because community and tradition are important. Culture is important. Education is important. It is simple: Without these Humanity is nothing. These are the tools by which we can construct a better future. The urgency in creating a renewal of our connection to nature and to each other cannot be overstated and really all of Sonidoselva's activity is oriented ultimately toward these ideals.
