With spectacular views across the valley and a laid back Bohemian atmosphere, Casa Loma is one of Minca's first hostels that we have seen grow over the years into a really great place to stay. Started in 2010 by Jay Speller and Anne Baumann, it is also home to the official Sonidoselva afterparty that follows our Saturday events as Jay also happens to be "a proper British DJ" who plays a really tight set. Though not in Minca, Costeño Beach is very much a part of the community here and is itself part of another thriving beachfront community in the area around the town of Buritaca. Its a beautiful location and facility, the surfing is great and everything is comfortable and relaxed.
The Canadian brothers Brian and Colm who own and operate the Costeño fell in love with the location, the people and the culture of this area of Colombia almost ten years ago and they have been instrumental in the positive transformation of the rapidly evolving cultural space that is the coast of Colombia today. Outside of Minca tucked away behind the waterfalls is La Frequencia. Started in 2017 by Jesse Blazo and Tala Al-Khudhairi, La Frequencia is a vibrant example of how the community in Minca is moving forward. They have constructed a facility that includes guest houses, a large meditation and performance space, a large naturally filtered swimming pool in the hills outside of Minca where they provide traditional herbal medicine and acupuncture, sound therapy and Thai massage. La Frequencia is also very active in agriculture, they have planted four thousand Kakow trees and are producing delicious organic chocolates. Did we mention that Tala is an incredible baker? Situated on a beautiful hilltop just at the entrance of Minca, Sol de Minca is a bio construction paradise. Since its inception in 2013, Federico Azcaray and Tatiana Jaramillo have been passionate about creating an examples of practical sustainability and have been at the forefront of many efforts to move our community in this direction. They have been organizing water infrastructure and trash disposal projects in the town and just generally applying a lot of effort around the community to make Minca a better place. Their facility reflects their deep commitment to the environment by using beautiful all natural adobe block and mortar for the housing as well as an incredible system of dry bathrooms. Just down the beach from Costeño is Cayenna. Our friends Lisa and Evan built this lovely hotel in 2015 and it has a private, relaxed and secluded feeling to it. It is evident that Cayenna takes great pride in the quality of the experience and has a very friendly and professional staff that make sure every detail is perfect. If what you are after is an incredible Glamping experience, Trekker is for you. With lovely open geodesic habitations with an incredible view of the valley below all the way to the ocean it has a relaxed vibe and is a nice five minute walk from town. Founded by Pim Hagenaars in 2017, Plan B's mission is to raise awareness about the global fight for the survival of bees, as well as to inspire the new generation of beekeepers. With this project he has been able to cultivate many bees, train and educate new generations of natural bee keepers and convince farms to start cultivating organically without chemicals or pesticides. More importantly, everyday he inspires visitors by showing them the beauty of nature and the importance of bees during one of his famous tours. Alex Amarnatkh and Katerina Melnichuk are from Moscow Russia and teach advanced Yoga and breath-work as well as offering various programs designed to connect you to a deeper state of consciousness and health. Their facility is right in Minca and they hold a regular scheduled of daily classes and are great at refining and opening up broader possibilities for practitioners at any level of Yoga. Bernardo Rey and Nube Sandoval are building a wonderful new site for art and theatre research here in Minca focused on rehabilitation projects for the victims of the conflict, fully immersed in the wild natural setting of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Before setting up their project in Minca they worked in collaboration with the CIR-Italian Council for Refugees based in Rome where Cenit spent 10 years developing the theatrical project of psycho-social rehabilitation with refugees victims of torture. In 2016 Bernardo and Nube were recognized for their efforts by winning the Ellen Stuart that year. Recently bread and Nube brought an incredible adaptation of Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck. Also just outside of Minca towards the waterfalls is Finca La Semilla. La Semilla's is owned by Ana Maria Alzate who always makes sure the feeling is relaxed and connected to nature.
